Snowmobile Safety Awareness Week: DNR says alcohol has been a factor in over 70-percent of fatal accidents in Minnesota

With a fresh coating of snow across much of the state, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is reminding snowmobilers not to drink and ride.

“Alcohol has been a factor in over 70-percent of fatal accidents in Minnesota as well as many non-deadly snowmobile accidents,” explained the D.N.R.’s Jen Mueller.

It’s Snowmobile Safety Awareness Week in Minnesota and Mueller also suggested riders, “Watch the weather and check trail conditions before heading out to ride. Our DNR website has great updated links on trail conditions, and how to prepare before you head out and ride.”

She also said riders should always wear a helmet and proper clothing and should never ride alone.

Minnesota is home to more 22,000 miles of groomed snowmobile trails.
